Pakistan has seen a rise in violent attacks since the Taliban were re-elected to rule in Afghanistan in 2021. This has been particularly evident in the provinces that border it, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
2024 was deemed to be the most deadly year for Pakistan’s military and civil security forces over the past decade, with at least 685 deaths and 444 terror attacks in the “CRSS Annual Security Report 2024” released by the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies.
Equally alarming was the total losses suffered by security personnel and civilians, i.e., 1,612 deaths, which accounted for more than 63 percent of the total losses this year. This equates to 73% more deaths compared to 934 criminals eliminated, The News reported, citing CRSS report.
The total number of deaths recorded this year reached a record-setting 9-year high and more than 66% more than the 2023 year. On average, seven people died every day, and November was ranked as the deadliest month on all indicators in comparison to the other months of the year.

The total of deaths arose from a total of 1,166 terrorist attacks as well as counter-terror, which was a bleak year for the security scene.
