Imran Khan Appoints Akbar as PTI KP President, Replacing Gandapur
RAWALPI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party’s founder, Imran Khan, on Saturday appointed Junaid Akbar as the party’s president of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The move comes after Akbar was elected chairperson for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) with the backing of both the opposition and the government.
The PAC is regarded as one of the most substantial legislative bodies. It can summon any person or records from government departments on financial concerns.
PTI Challenges 26th Amendment in Supreme Court
In the meantime, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has issued an appointment notice for Akbar to replace Ali Amin Gandapur, also the province’s chief minister.
The PTI founder has also directed Raja to conduct a consultation on the party’s restructuring in Punjab.
Raja declared that Gandapur didn’t want to be the provincial party president. He added that Gandapur was the PTI supremo and instructed the KP Chief Minister to concentrate on governance and terrorism within the province.
Khan The party currently in power in KP Khan has expressed concern about state corruption, according to Geo News sources. Sources further disclosed that the PTI chief had directed Gandapur to leave Dera Ismail Khan’s politics.
The former premier also had an extended conversation with Akbar and Atif Khan, and he sat down with them about various issues, according to sources.

In addition, Akbar has been tasked by the PTI founder to discuss and settle party-related issues in KP, According to sources.
Akbar, also a member of the National Assembly (MNA), took over the PAC chairman position, which was empty since the new government took power following the February 2024 elections.
According to the norms of the parliamentary system that were enacted after the general elections of 2008, the chairmanship of the PAC is usually assigned to the opposition party; this practice continues to this day.
