Imran Khan Seeks Meeting with PTI Negotiation Team Ahead of January 28 Talks
Rawalpindi: Amid uncertainty over the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s decision to suspend the dialogue in partnership with government officials, PTI founder Imran Khan has demanded a meeting with his negotiation committee before an upcoming round of discussions set for the 28th of January.

Sources have told Geo News that the incarcerated former prime minister, in an interview with the party’s leaders in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, announced that the final position on the talks would be announced following the meeting.
The conflicting statements of the PTI, the former ruling party, regarding talks continue and are being addressed by PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, one day earlier, stating ongoing discussions had been put on hold, a change from the earlier announcement of the end of them.
Its Imran-founded political party “called off” the negotiation process because of “non-cooperation” of the government and the delay in the creation of a judicial panel to investigate the May 9, 2023 protests that turned violent and a crackdown on demonstrators in Islamabad on the 26th of November last year.
The PTI and the coalition government have been in talks to ease political tensions within the country for over a month. The two sides have had three rounds of talks thus far.
The discussions ended in a deadlock because the Khan-founded party believed they could attend this fourth meeting only when the government established the judicial commission. The ruling alliance said they would provide a written response to PTI’s demands in the next round of negotiations.
But, he appeared to be reversing his earlier statement; Barrister Gohar — one day earlier, stated that the party may revisit its choice to pull the talks off, but the government has to announce the creation of a judicial commission.
As for the other side, PTI Senator Shibli Faraz, in a press conference in front of Adiala prison today stated that the PTI’s “clear goal” is to guarantee an impartial investigation and establishment of a judicial panel into the events that occurred between the 9th of May, 2023 and November 26, 2024.

“The government has the best option to form a commission and create a credible environment,” said the official in a statement, adding that if the government doesn’t do that in the first place, “something is fishy.”
Shibli said his party does not object to pursuing the discussions if the government creates an inquiry.
He also criticized the government for “contradictory statements,” saying they had previously stated that the final decision would be taken within eight days concerning creating a judicial commission. Still, today, “they are talking about eight working days.”
Senator Emmanuel Macron reiterated that the country cannot progress until stable political arena. “Our doors are open to discuss the country’s betterment, economic and political stability,” the senator said.
“Won’t be attending the Jan 28 session.’
Additionally, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed that his party will not be a part of the session on January 28, scheduled by the National Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
Interviewing journalists in the Adiala prison after meeting Imran, the jailed PTI chief, the man stated that he had an “extensive discussion” with Imran regarding the talks, pointing out that government officials “ridiculed” his party’s charter of demands.

“We want to let the people of Pakistan know what happened on May 9 and November 26,” He added.
In answer to a query, he explained that Imran named Junaid Akbar for the post of PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter president on the advice of Chief Secretary Ali Amin Gandapur.
However, he made it clear that Gandapur will continue to be the province’s chief executive.
Answering a second query, Raja confirmed that Mashal Yousafzai was appointed the spokesperson for Bushra Bibi, the wife of Imran Khan.
