Senate Chairman Gillani Issues Production Order for Senator Ejaz Chaudhry
Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani on Monday issued a production order for PTI Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, who has been in prison for the past 18 months, to allow him to participate in tomorrow’s Senate session.
This isn’t the first time a production order has been issued for the senator, who is currently held at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail. In March of the previous year, he was supposed to be presented in the Senate but could not attend the session.
In November, Chaudhry was one of 21 other PTI members officially charged by a Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in connection with the nationwide riots that occurred on May 9, 2023, which were filed at the Racecourse and Sarwar Road police stations.
Chaudhry stated that even though he is a senator, he has been prevented from attending parliamentary sessions. “No difficulty has managed to break our spirit, and it will not. The oppression by the state will end,” he remarked.
Opposition Leader in the Senate Shibli Faraz requested the production order, a copy of which is in Dawn.com’s possession.
“The Honourable Chairman Senate deems it essential for Senator Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry to be present during the 345th Senate session of Pakistan,” the order stated.
“The Honourable Chairman of the Senate has graciously summoned Senator Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhary to attend the sessions above at the Parliament House.”The order, directed to the secretary of the interior minister, among others, mandated them to “produce Senator Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhary at the start of each session of the stated session,” indicating that Chaudhry would be returned to their custody once the session concluded.
