Indonesia, Pakistan to Boost Cooperation in Key Sectors
Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has pinpointed four key areas for improved cooperation with Pakistan: food security, energy security, health, and defense. This declaration followed a meeting between Kadin Chairman Anindya Bakrie and Pakistani Ambassador to Indonesia Ameer Khurram Rathore.
In a statement on Saturday, Bakrie remarked, “We came together to explore ways in which Indonesia and Pakistan can collaborate more effectively,” highlighting Pakistan’s advantages in defense, health, agriculture, and energy. He stressed the significance of the forthcoming trade missions and exhibitions from both nations, scheduled for August. “These initiatives are promising,” he stated, noting that Kadin would work closely with its Pakistani counterpart to enhance bilateral trade.

“As two developing countries, our focus is not only on improving our economies but also on expanding trade,” Bakrie articulated. “Indonesia continually seeks new market opportunities, and Pakistan is among the partners we closely observe.” He also highlighted the need for economic collaboration to benefit micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) alongside more prominent companies.
Ambassador Rathore commended the strong religious and cultural connections between Indonesia and Pakistan, which lay a robust foundation for enhancing business and trade connections. “We are considering various sectors, as outlined by the Kadin chairman. We are optimistic that we can establish stronger trade ties between our two nations under his leadership,” Rathore expressed.

Data from Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) indicates that the country had a trade surplus with Pakistan from January to November 2024, with exports totaling $3.04 billion against imports of $529 million.
This increasing economic interaction highlights both countries’ dedication to reinforcing their partnership and investigating new opportunities for collaboration in essential sectors.
