Google Brings Gemini AI Features to Smart TVs, Enhancing User Experience
Google TV will soon include Gemini, making the TV experience more intuitive and user-friendly. With this update, consumers will be able to communicate with their televisions using natural language, such as asking inquiries about travel or history. In return, the TV will respond to the query with both video content and textual information. This week, these latest upgrades were introduced at the CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Additional capabilities of the Gemini AI-embedded Google TV will include generating bespoke artwork, controlling smart home devices via the TV interface, and providing a daily news summary. The connection will allow customers to communicate with their other smart home devices, such as viewing their video doorbell feed, dimming lighting, and more. The AI functions will be available for select Google TV models later this year. However, an official date has yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, the internet behemoth introduced comparable AI functions for the Google TV Streamer last year.According to The Verge, the business plans to equip these smart TVs with far-field microphones, allowing users to deliver orders to the TV without a control. Furthermore, Google TVs will incorporate proximity sensors that recognize when you are close to the TV and display “personalized and informative widgets” such as weather or news updates.
Not only Google but also other major television manufacturers such as LG and Samsung have declared that they are adopting the AI trend by including Microsoft’s Copilot assistance in their products.
However, before TV, tech geeks may see Gemini AI arrive on Wear OS devices, which is slated to coincide with the March 2025 Pixel Feature Drop. According to 9to5Google, the Google app’s Beta version (v16.0.5) contained hints regarding the upcoming release. The sentence “Easily talk back and forth to get more done with an assistant on your watch, reimagined with Google AI” suggests that the Wear OS assistant will be more natural and conversational than before, enabling more dynamic back-and-forth conversations.
