Four Terrorists Killed in North Waziristan Intelligence-Based Operation
ISLAMABAD: In the ongoing battle against terrorism, security forces executed an intelligence-based operation (IBO) during the night of January 14-15 in North Waziristan’s Spinwam, resulting in the death of four terrorists.
“While carrying out the operation, our troops effectively targeted the location of the khawarij and engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire,” stated the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a Wednesday release.
The military’s media wing added that the security forces also seized weapons and ammunition from the deceased militants, who had been involved in various terrorist activities against security personnel as well as the targeted killing of innocent civilians.
The ISPR further indicated that a sanitization operation was underway to eradicate any remaining terrorists in the vicinity. This recent counter-terrorism effort follows the elimination of eight terrorists in two separate encounters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa just a day prior.

In an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Tank district, six militants were neutralized, while two others were killed in the Tirah Valley of Khyber district. Earlier, 27 terrorists were eliminated in an IBO in the Kacchi district of Balochistan. As security forces persist in their mission to eradicate terrorism, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir stated during his visit to Peshawar that hostile elements are experiencing significant losses, and their ability to cause harm will be significantly diminished.

The army chief’s remarks came in light of an increase in terrorist attacks following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, especially in the bordering areas of KP and Balochistan. The year 2024 has been recorded as the most lethal for Pakistan’s civil and military security forces in a decade, with at least 685 deaths and 444 terror attacks reported, as detailed in the “CRSS Annual Security Report 2024” released by the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies. The total number of fatalities in the preceding year had reached a nine-year peak, showing an increase of over 66% compared to 2023. On average, nearly seven individuals lost their lives each day, with November being the deadliest month across all metrics compared to other months throughout the year.
The violence predominantly impacted KP, which experienced the highest human toll with 1,616 fatalities, followed by Balochistan with 782 deaths. In 2024, the nation reported 2,546 fatalities related to violence and 2,267 injuries among civilians, security forces, and outlaws. This casualty count arose from 1,166 incidents involving terror attacks and counter-terror operations, marking a dismal year for the country’s security situation.
