The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is experiencing extraordinary torrential rainfall and severe flooding that has inundated streets and neighborhoods across various cities. Meteorological conditions are expected to persist for several days.
On Tuesday, the National Centre for Meteorology issued a series of warning alerts with varying levels of severity throughout the kingdom, as reported by Anadolu. A high red alert was issued for the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah in the western region and for certain areas in the eastern region.The capital city, Riyadh, along with the central region and the southwestern provinces of Aseer and Jazan, received a lower orange alert. Nevertheless, residents were advised to remain vigilant about the anticipated rainfall.In preparation for the heavy rain, the kingdom’s rescue agencies, including the Red Crescent Authority, have increased their readiness. The Red Crescent confirmed that its rescue teams are fully operational to ensure continuous ambulance services and prompt interventions, as the Saudi Press Agency stated.
Additionally, Saudi authorities have cautioned citizens to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines, particularly in regions under high-level alerts. The Civil Defence Service has advised individuals to avoid valleys, low-lying areas, and locations where rainwater may accumulate.The impact of the flooding, characterized by rising water levels that have swept vehicles off roads and submerged buildings, has been widely shared on social media platforms.
