Russia-Pakistan Relations on the Rise: Lavrov Praises Bilateral Progress

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has indicated that the relationship between Russia and Pakistan is currently at its highest point and is experiencing what might be its most favorable phase.

During a press conference discussing the achievements of Russian diplomacy in 2024, he noted that ties between Moscow and Islamabad have reached a remarkably positive level after years of collaboration.

During this press conference, Ishtiaq Hamdani, a Pakistani journalist based in Moscow, asked the Russian Foreign Minister for his views on the state of Pakistan-Russia relations.

Lavrov emphasized that the relations between Russia and Pakistan are currently at their zenith. He mentioned that in late October 2024, Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko traveled to Pakistan.

He added that he informed Russian President Vladimir Putin about the outcomes of his visit to the country and the senators’ suggestions to strengthen cooperation between Moscow and Islamabad.

“The SCO has an anti-terrorism framework that operates effectively. Given that terrorist financing is closely intertwined with drug trafficking and other forms of organized crime, we have advocated for the establishment of a single center for several years,” Lavrov stated, expressing optimism that this year we will commence the implementation of this decision to tackle new threats.
