Omair Bin Yousuf’s Century Powers SNGPL to Dominant Start Against KRL
KARACHI Omair Bin Yousuf scored his 11th century of first-class cricket to place Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd. (SNGPL) into a dominant place over Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) on the first morning of fourth-round play in the Presidential Cup Grade-I match in the State Bank Stadium on Sunday.
Batting first, the tournament champions were reduced to 123/4 when Jawad Ali shook their top order, taking two wickets.
However, Omair stood firm and forged a feisty five-wicket partnership of 164 runs for the fifth wicket with Saifullah Bangash to put SNGPL in control.
Omair Bin Yousuf eventually fell victim to Arshadullah after scoring the highest score with 106 of 209 deliveries thanks to 11 fours. However, Bangash remained unbeaten on the first day, as SNGPL recorded 302/8.
Bangash will begin SNGPL’s second innings on day two, with Shehzad Gul unbeaten and scoring zero.
Arshadullah was the star bowler of KRL when he took four wickets and 50 runs in 20 overs. Jawad took two wickets.
At the UBL Sports Complex, 20 wickets fell during the exciting first day of the fourth-round match with Ghani Glass and Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).
After batting first, OGDCL could only achieve 80 runs before being dismissed in 34.1 overs. Sameen Gul racked up his ninth consecutive first-class five-wicket haul.
The right-arm pacer smashed five OGDCL batters and let loose just 14 runs in his 10.1 overs. Mamoon Riaz added two scalps.
Wicketkeeper batter Rizwan Ali was the top scorer for the OGDCL with a 59-ball 34, followed by middle-order batter Abdul Rehman Mouzammil, who had an equivocal 26.
In retaliation, Ghani Glass secured an impressive 65-run lead in the first innings despite being bowled only 140 in 38.5 overs.
Skipper Saad Nasim was the top scorer with a quick 41-ball 38. He was followed by Tayyab Takhir (36) along with Shadab Khan (30).
Mohammad Amir Khan was the choice among the OGDCL bowlers, who took four wickets, while Mushtaq Ahmed was the pick, taking three wickets.
In the NBP Sports Complex, last edition’s runners-up, Pakistan Television (PTV), lost just 20 runs with seven wickets on the board following the first day of their fourth-round match with Eshaal Associates.
Batting first, Eshaal Associates were bowled out for a meagre 164 in just 46 overs despite Abdul Wahid Bangalzai’s shrewd 47 in the middle.
The right-handed hitter was the top scorer at Eshaal Associates, and test batter Abdullah Shafique was the other notable player by scoring a 31-ball.
Mohammad Ibtisam led PTV’s bowling charge with a five-wicket haul, and Israr Hussain played a supporting role with two dismissals.
In retaliation, Shamyl Hussain’s unbeaten half-century brought PTV to 144/3 on the first day of play.
As of the end of the game, the first batter was unbeaten for a tally of 63 off 98 balls thanks to six fours and six. He’ll resume PTV’s opening innings on the second day with middle-order batter Ali Usman unbeaten on five.
To Eshaal Associates, Musa Khan and Nisar Ahmed each took one wicket each so far.
The KCCA Stadium, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), was reeling on 23/2 after it had to pay the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) just 250.
Skipper Umar Amin and top order batter Ali Shan, unbeaten on eleven and seven, respectively, will begin SBP’s efforts the following day, as they are trailing by 227 more runs.
Batting first, WAPDA scored 250 all out due to anchoring half-centuries scored by captain Khalid Usman and Mohammad Ammar.
Khalid was the highest scorer with an unbeaten 69 out of 104 balls, and Ammar scored 59 off 107.
For SBP, Zahid Mehmood and Mohammad Ismail each took three wickets, and Aimal Khan took two.
