Nikki Garcia Speaks Out on Life After Divorce from Artem Chigvintsev
The former WWE superstar Nikki Garcia has spoken out for the first time since her split from Artem Chigvintsev. The former WWE star sheds light on their son of four years, Matteo, and how she navigates the post-divorce world.
Garcia requested divorce proceedings from Chigvintsev on September 20, 2024, after an altercation that led to his arrest on charges of domestic violence.
An exclusive interview was conducted with Us Weekly, and she spoke about how she’s successfully navigated the change with a focus on their son’s health.
To this point, Garcia explained, “I’ve used words like divorce, but only when he’s asked. Everything’s been about us just having our own homes. We ensured we were both there on Christmas when we baked Santa’s cookies. Matteo went to bed, and we were both there when he woke. Because he’s our focus, we want to keep those moments.”
In the Daily Mail, co-parenting has challenged Garcia, as she said, “What’s crazy about co-parenting is you get a schedule. One day, it’s like, ‘OK, here are the days you get your son,’ and that’s just what you do. That part is incredibly tough for me.”
Despite the turmoil, Garcia says Matteo is doing well despite the changes, while she added, “Matteo’s OK and not affected. So that makes it easier. He’s happy to go to both homes.”
Garcia is open to romance in the future, but she is hesitant about getting married, as she said, “I don’t ever want to sign paperwork again. If I find the right person, I don’t mind [a commitment ceremony], but I don’t want to be legally [bound].”
In addition, Garcia took a break from the limelight after the widely reported separation due to the need for some time to sort out the incidents.
In this way, she shared, “Everything was very shocking. You couldn’t have ever told me that this would’ve been the ending of my 2024 or my marriage–I wouldn’t have believed you.”
In the meantime, Chigvintsev was arrested for criminal domestic violence in August 2024. However, the prosecutors were hesitant to bring charges.
According to the newspaper, Garcia and Chigvintsev initially demanded a restraining order against each other, and the order was eventually removed. The divorce was finalized last year.
