Govt Approves Uniform Tariff for SEZs, Industrial Estates to Boost Industrial Growth

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government approved a standardized electricity tariff for industrial estates and special economic zones (SEZs) on Tuesday. 
As per the details, PM Shehbaz chaired a Cabinet Committee on Energy meeting, where officials presented the framework for providing power at a single point to these zones, which will streamline connections and administrative processes.

The new system aims to eliminate any interference from distribution company officials within the zones, guaranteeing a continuous power supply.
PM Shehbaz instructed that the implementation of this system should begin immediately in all special industrial zones.
He said, “The growth of industries is crucial for national development. Providing electricity at consistent rates will boost industrial advancement in the country.”

PM Calls for Urgent Action to Address Education Sector Issues

The energy reforms, designed to deliver economical and environmentally sustainable electricity to citizens, were evaluated.
The prime minister praised the Power Division and associated organizations for their work in decreasing circular debt and improving the efficiency of the energy sector.
In a separate comment, Power Minister Awais Leghari acknowledged the progress achieved in the power sector.

In a video announcement, Leghari mentioned, “Between July and November 2024, circular debt was reduced by Rs12 billion due to enhanced policies and performance.”
He noted, “By November, the debt was at Rs2,381 billion, down from Rs2,393 billion on June 30, 2024.”
Leghari emphasized a recovery rate of 96 percent during that time, stating, “The entire sector is now benefiting from the initiatives introduced by the current administration.”

Additionally, the government suggested revised contracts with 18 independent power producers (IPPs) ahead of the federal cabinet meeting.
