9 Terrorists Killed in Security Operations in North Waziristan: ISPR
On Sunday, security forces eliminated nine terrorists during two distinct operations in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as stated by the military’s media division, with two terrorists apprehended and two others injured.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported, “An intelligence-based operation (IBO) was carried out by security forces in the general area of Dosalli, based on the suspected presence of Khwarij.” During this operation, security personnel killed six terrorists and captured two others, according to the ISPR. Another IBO took place in Esham, where “after a fierce exchange of gunfire, three Khwarij were neutralized by security forces, while two Khwarij sustained injuries,” as mentioned in the statement.
The ISPR indicated that arms and ammunition were seized from the deceased terrorists, who “were actively involved in various terrorist acts against security forces and the targeted killings of innocent civilians.” “Sanitization operations are ongoing to eradicate any remaining kanji in the region, as Pakistan’s security forces are resolute in their commitment to eradicate terrorism from the nation,” the statement concluded. In July, an official notification from the government classified the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as Fitna al Khawarij, instructing all institutions to refer to those involved in terrorist acts against Pakistan using the term khariji (outcast). On Friday, the ISPR reported that five terrorists were killed in an IBO in Dera Ismail Khan, KP.
According to a statement from the media wing, security forces executed an IBO in the Maddi area of DI Khan following reports of terrorists’ presence. The report stated that security forces “effectively engaged” the terrorists in their location, resulting in the elimination of five of them, including the ringleader Shafiullah alias Shafi. Recently, Pakistan has experienced a rise in terrorist activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan. Such attacks have surged since the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan breached a tenuous ceasefire agreement with the government. With at least 685 members of the security forces killed amid a total of 444 terror attacks, 2024 has become the deadliest year for both civil and military security forces in Pakistan in a decade.
The total losses for civilians and security personnel are equally troubling, with 1,612 fatalities, representing over 63 percent of the total recorded in the previous year, marking a 73 percent increase compared to the 934 outlaws eliminated. The overall fatalities reported last year were a record high in nine years, exceeding 66 percent more than in 2023. On average, nearly seven lives were lost each day.
