Episcopal Bishop from Washington, Mariann Edgar Budde Monday, called on Donald Trump to show compassion toward marginalized groups, such as gay, lesbian, and transgender kids as well as illegal immigrants.
“In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now,” Bishop Budde declared during the inaugural prayer in the Washington National Cathedral. “There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families. Some who fear for their lives.”
President Trump who was seated alongside first lady Melania Trump along with Vice-President JD Vance, criticized the event as insignificant.

Who is Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde?
- Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde was raised within New Jersey and Colorado. She earned her BA in the field of history at the University of Rochester in New York. She also has an Master of Divinity degree (1989) as well as an Doctor of Ministry degree (2008) from Virginia Theological Seminary.
