PTI’s Ejaz Chaudhry Missing from Senate Despite Production Order
Senator Ejaz Chaudhry of PTI did not attend the Senate session on Tuesday despite having production orders issued by Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani the day before.
This was not the first instance of a production order being issued for the senator currently detained at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore. Last March, he was supposed to appear in the Senate but could not attend the session. In November of the previous year, Chaudhry, along with 21 other PTI members, was formally indicted by a Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in connection with the nationwide riots that occurred on May 9, 2023, under cases filed at the Racecourse and Sarwar Road police stations.
“We are deeply saddened as colleagues of a senator from this house who has been imprisoned for the past 1.5 years in a jail in Lahore,” stated the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Shibli Faraz.

Opposition lawmakers were observed holding signs featuring images of the absent senator during the Senate session. Faraz expressed his gratitude to the speaker for authorizing the production order for Chaudhry, noting, “Even so, he is not present because the Punjab government does not wish for him to come here and speak.” The PTI leader emphasized that attending the Senate meeting was Chaudhry’s legal, constitutional, and democratic entitlement, labeling the Punjab government’s rationale regarding security concerns preventing his attendance as “unfortunate.” He remarked that the house belongs to everyone, stating, “our custodian’scustodian’s letter was disregarded.” He urged his fellow senators to “unite” in protesting the “disrespect shown to the parliament.”
