PTI to Boycott Fourth Round of Talks with Government, Confirms Gohar
PTI opted to cancel its fourth session of talks with the government one day after it declared that the party’s chief, Imran Khan, had issued instructions to halt discussions because of a delay in creating judiciary commissions.
The PTI and the government had been involved in discussions to reduce the political temperature. After two rounds of talks, three rounds were held just seven months ago (January 16), during which the PTI officially laid out their demands on paper.
Despite several weeks of talks, the dialogue process is still not moving ahead on the most critical issues, including the establishment of judicial commissions and the release of PTI prisoners.
The government on Monday promised the PTI the opposition’s “charter” of demands within seven working days following the party’s warning that it would not participate in the next session of talks if no judicial commissions were established to investigate the incidents of May 9 and November 26 incidents.
National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq has scheduled a meeting to discuss the fourth round of voting, scheduled for January 28 at 11:45 a.m., according to a statement released by the NA secretariat. A version of this statement can be accessible on Dawn.com. Sadiq rules this meeting, and an invitation was extended for the PTI.
In an event for the press outside of the Parliament House today, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, joined by PTI members Omar Ayub Khan, Shibli Faraz, and Ali Mohammad Khan, said that Imran was in agreement with negotiations despite the lengthy charges of his and his PTI.
“The [stipulated] days have passed, but the government has not announced the formation of judicial commissions even after [the deadline passed] yesterday,” the official added, adding that the talks ended because government officials were “not serious at any stage.”
He added, “We presented them with simple demands during discussions. What did we do wrong in announcing the creation of a judicial commission?”
The previous Thursday, Gohar stated that his government pledged to create the requested commissions of judicial review within seven days, but it was unable to fulfill that promise.

“The PTI founder (has) said to call the talks off over the government’s failure to form the judicial commissions,” the source declared.
He also said that the PTI hopes to pursue the talks, but they will have been canceled “due to non-cooperation from the government.”
Regarding the current session of the House of Representatives, Gohar said that eight laws were approved in 11 minutes. Thirty-seven bills have been passed, but none were debated,” Gohar said, noting that the president turned them down.
As per the Constitution,, law is passed in response to the objections from the president, said he.
He explained that in India, the session can last for about six hours and added, “The world will remember how the House was run this year.”

‘Peca amendment black law’: Shibli
In the press conference at the presser, senator Shibli Faraz commented on the recent changes made in the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Peca) Act and called it a “black law against freedom of expression.”
The bill was approved by the National Assembly a day ago, after which journalists protested outside the press gallery to protest against the bill’s passing.
Members of the party opposing Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl also opposed the bill.
The amendments were intended to force media officials into the shadows. He added that efforts are being undertaken to silence people’s voices.
“And then they (the government) complain about people not investing in Pakistan,” he said. “How can people invest in Pakistan when such laws are being passed?”
The senator also said that MNAs and senators disagreed on adopting amendment bills.
“They are enjoying their positions based on a fake mandate; that’s why they don’t care about the people.”
Additionally, Ayub chimed in and stated that “online businesses will be destroyed under this act.”

Govt requests PTI to reconsider
On the contrary, the government called on Thursday for the PTI to reconsider its decision to abandon dialog. In a press conference held outside Parliament House, Senator Irfan Siddiqui urged the PTI to continue dialogue in the interest of peace and stability in the political arena.
“I cannot understand the reason for the PTI’s threat to abandon talks,” the politician said. He added that the two parties have already agreed to allow the administration time to prepare its formal response in writing in response to PTI’s demand, saying that the deadline wasn’t until the end of the month.
“I don’t know the exact words, except they were rushing to arrive and are now exuberant to leave. The impatience they displayed when they arrived is the same as what they’re bringing back. We request they stay for a few days and not leave for the same place. Let the weather become comfortable.”
Senator Siddiqui stated that the coalition parties have “almost” formed an opinion regarding the PTI’s demands. “They should reconsider if it is in their power and if they can form an opinion apart from their founder’s,” said Senator Siddiqui.
Senator Ayodhya stated that the government’s side showed restraint in various areas in the talks and obfuscated numerous actions taken by the PTI because it was determined to push forward the talks by the “spirit of negotiations, democracy, and give and take.”
He had urged PTI PTI to rethink its decision or file its grievances in writing.
