Manchester City Eyes €40 Million Move for Lazio’s Nicolò Rovella
Manchester City is readying a €40 million bid for Nicolò Rovella, the 23-year-old midfielder from Lazio, as the squad faces challenges without Rodri, who is sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury. As reported by Il Messaggero, City aims to make its approach during the January transfer window.
Rovella has been performing remarkably well for Lazio this season, leading to his first call-up to the Italian national team in November. He is currently on a two-year loan from Juventus. Lazio is obligated to purchase the midfielder at the end of the season for €17 million, a transaction the club is expected to finalize without delay.
The void left by Rodri’s absence has significantly impacted City’s midfield, as his role as a defensive linchpin has proven essential to Pep Guardiola’s strategy. The team’s recent form decline has highlighted the necessity for additions in the holding midfield role, with Rovella seen as a suitable long-term option.
If the transfer is finalized, Lazio could expect a significant profit from Rovella. By fulfilling their obligation to acquire the player for €17 million and then selling him to City for €40 million, the club would stand to gain €23 million in profit. Juventus, Rovella’s parent club, would also benefit from any sell-on clauses in the initial deal.
