Interior Minister Naqvi Pledges to Strengthen Pak-US Ties in Farewell Meeting with Ambassador Blome
On Thursday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi conducted a farewell conference with the departing US Ambassador, Donald Blome.
In 2022, Donald Armin Blome assumed responsibility for the US mission in Pakistan, experiencing a period of distinctive opportunities and challenges.
After nearly four years, he became Islamabad’s first full-time American envoy. He assumed responsibility for his assignment when Afghanistan was no longer a dominant issue in bilateral relations, following the withdrawal of US forces from the country after the longest war in American history, which lasted for 20 years.
Blome previously served as the US ambassador to Tunisia, the chargé d’affaires at the Libya External Office in Tunisia, the consul general at the US Consulate in Jerusalem, and the director of the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs at the US Department of State.
During their departure meeting today, Naqvi and Blome discussed mutual interests, such as enhancing Pakistan-US relations and developing strategies to confront global challenges like terrorism.
The minister expressed his gratitude for Ambassador Blome’s efforts in promoting relations between the two countries and wished him luck in his future endeavours.
The recent terrorism incidents in Pakistan were condemned by the US Ambassador, who reiterated the necessity of global collaboration to address the threat.
Naqvi reiterated the same sentiment, asserting, “Terrorism is a global issue that necessitates a unified response.” The international community must work together to develop a comprehensive strategy for its eradication.
Pakistan’s interior minister also underscored the country’s strict position on illegal immigration, stating that no unauthorized foreign nationals would be permitted to reside there.
Additionally, Ambassador Blome expressed his appreciation for the assistance he received from Pakistani institutions during his tenure, recognizing their contributions to facilitating diplomatic endeavors.
Federal Secretary of Interior Khurram Ali Agha and US Deputy Head of Mission Natalie Baker attended the meeting.
