Dick Clark Productions reported that the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday attracted an average of 10.1 million viewers across CBS and Paramount+ (and the CBS app), a 7.4 percent increase from the previous year’s event. The number was determined by DCP, the producer of the Globes, using VideoAmp Overnight Data and CBS’ streaming data.

The 2024 Golden Globes, which comedian Jo Koy hosted, garnered an average of 9.4 million viewers across the same platforms. This represents a 50% increase from the previous Globes telecast on NBC, although it remains far below the show’s pre-COVID levels. The Golden Globes had been broadcast on NBC indefinitely until the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which had previously served as the show’s voting body, was embroiled in a diversity scandal. After taking a year off in 2022, NBC broadcast a truncated and uncomfortable Globes in 2023 before allowing its TV rights to expire. CBS acquired them in time for the 2024 telecast. The Golden Globes are now owned and produced by Penske Media, which has acquired Dick Clark Productions. PMC is also the parent company of IndieWire.

This year, comedian Nikki Glaser was the act to perform, delivering a significantly superior performance than Koy. The 82nd Golden Globe Awards, which took place on Sunday night, were described by IndieWire critic Ben Travers as “a significant improvement from the disaster of last year.” Travers assigned the program a B- grade on Sunday, significantly improving from the D grade in 2024. According to reports released the morning following the program, the producers are already interested in having Glazer return for the following year.

The 2025 Golden Globes were faced with a highly anticipated NFL matchup. The Detroit Lions, who were also 14-2, hosted the Minnesota Vikings on NBC and Peacock. The Lions easily defeated their visitors.

Sunday’s top-rated telecast was always anticipated to be the NFC North matchup. It garnered an average of 28.5 million viewers, a 24% increase from the January 2024 “Sunday Night Football” game (Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins) that competed with the Globes.

“Shōgun” won Best Television Series — Drama on Sunday, while “Hacks” was named the top TV comedy. “The Brutalist” was awarded the Best Motion Picture — Drama, while “Emilia Pérez” was recognized as the year’s top comedy or musical film. (“Emilia Pérez,” certainly a musical and not a comedy, took home the most total trophies with four.) The inaugural Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award was awarded to “Wicked.” The complete list of honorees can be found here.
