Filmmaker Nabeel Qureshi Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Om Puri on 8th Death Anniversary
Filmmaker Nabeel Qureshi paid tribute to Indian actor Om Puri on his seventh death anniversary, saying he still can’t believe he died.Puri starred in the Pakistani director’s 2016 film Actor in Law, and Qureshi stated that working with Puri was a “rare privilege” for him early in his career.Qureshi shared poignant photos of the actor on set, saying, “I was only 30 when I was allowed to direct this extraordinary actor, someone whose craft was larger than life, but whose heart was even bigger.”
“But my relationship with him extended much beyond work. The relationship we formed while working together is still one of the most treasured memories of my life. Om Puri Ji was a loving, caring, and warm human being beyond everything else.He stated that their brief time together created terrific moments in Pakistan, India, and Dubai. Qureshi praised Puri as extremely hospitable, a great gourmand, and someone who made him feel at ease in his presence.
“I still recall how delighted we were to meet again in February 2017 for the PSL in Dubai. He had a remarkable knack for making everyone feel at ease, to the point where I forgot I was sitting with a living icon and took his compassion for granted. He was that humble and personable.”The director said that he and producer Fizza Meerza frequently reminisced about him and remembered the kindness and wisdom he imparted.
“We miss him. Om Puri Ji was a man beyond borders, an artist who advocated for peace and humanity. May his soul find eternal peace. His legacy inspires us, and his memory will remain forever.”
