EV Revolution: Fuel Stations Urged to Install Charging Units
ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production suggested on Thursday that charging stations for electric vehicles be set up at all fuel stations to encourage environmentally friendly transportation. Senator Aon Abbas, the committee chairman, raised worries about the rules for new energy and renewable energy.
“Who is in charge of solar panel prices? And who is upsetting the balance between demand and supply?”
Senator Abbas noted that people are putting up solar panels as they wish, without enough regulation. The energy ministry officials told the committee that the government is encouraging solar energy use in the country. Mr. Abbas pointed out that he would bring up the topic of taxes on locally made solar panels in the Senate.
He was optimistic that the government would remove taxes on local solar panel production and place duties on imported solar panels to help the local industry. The committee also discussed the Electric Vehicle Policy, and officials from the Engineering Development Board (EDB) confirmed that charging stations would be available to all. The committee learned that 93 percent of mobile phones in the country are made locally, and these localization efforts have generated over 40,000 jobs in mobile phone manufacturing.
