Bushra Says Faith in the Law is Lost
Bushra Bibi, spouse of ex-prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, expressed in a court session on Tuesday that she has lost her “trust in the justice system.”
She delivered her statements while attending an anti-terrorism court (ATC) session in Islamabad concerning the hearing linked to the Rangers accident case. This case pertains to the deaths of four Rangers personnel in an alleged hit-and-run incident on Srinagar Highway during the PTI’s protests on November 26, with opposing claims from both the government and the party.
Last month, the court ordered the police to present the suspects by December 26. The first information report (FIR) names Imran, Bushra, Ali Amin Gandapur, Omar Ayub Khan, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Salman Akram Raja, Murad Saeed, Zulfi Bukhari, Hammad Azhar, Raoof Hassan, and other PTI leaders.
“After the incidents involving the PTI founder Imran Khan and myself, I have lost my trust in the legal system,” she stated while addressing Judge Tahir Abbas Supra, who led the hearing.
The case was filed at the Ramna police station under Section 302 (murder), Section 324 (attempted murder), Section 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), Section 114 (abettor present when an offense is committed), along with other sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, the Peaceful Assembly, and Public Order Act, in addition to charges related to terrorism.
The FIR claimed that Imran consistently directed the party leadership, including his wife Bushra, Gandapur, and his sister Aleema Khan, to spare no effort in securing his release from jail, stating they could “set anything on fire or kill anyone for this purpose.”
The hearing
After granting interim bail to Bushra, Judge Supra noted, “Although it took some time, all legal processes have been completed.” Bushra replied, “No, it’s not a big deal, [but] we have lost our faith in the judiciary.” “That’s not entirely accurate; trust hasn’t been lost everywhere,“ Judge Supra countered, adding that “the justice system is still functioning. If it fails, society will disintegrate.“ He reminded Bushra that she had been appearing before him in court. “There is law in the country, yet justice is absent. The PTI founder is imprisoned for the respect of the Constitution,“ Bushra asserted. “Throughout trials, I’ve witnessed judges become ill and shake,“ she stated. “We all need to collaborate for the country,“ Judge Supra replied, urging Bushra to participate in the investigation for all cases. Following the conclusion of the proceedings, she then departed for Adiala Jail from the Anti-Terrorism Court.
