Bangladesh Drop Shakib and Litton from Champions Trophy Squad
Bangladesh team will not include all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das for the upcoming Champions Trophy next month.
Shakib’s inclusion in the team became impossible after being reported for a suspicious bowling action while in England last year. The 37-year-old is still under a bowling suspension following a second evaluation of his action last month.
Regarded as Bangladesh’s greatest cricketer of all time, Shakib has already retired from test cricket, and his career in 50-over formats seems to be over after not being selected for the Champions Trophy. Litton, on the other hand, did not make the squad after registering six single-digit scores in his last seven ODI matches.
“Litton is currently not performing well,” said Bangladesh chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain to reporters on Sunday. “He is dismissed consistently. He has not been able to capitalize on the powerplay in white-ball cricket. “We will be playing on good batting surfaces in Rawalpindi, so we need to include in-form top-order batsmen.”
Pakistan will host the majority of the Champions Trophy, but India, whom Bangladesh will face in its Group A opener on February 20, will play its matches in Dubai.
Bangladesh squad: Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Mushfiqur Rahim (wicketkeeper), Towhid Hridoy, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Parvez Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan, Nahid Rana
