Security personnel eliminated eight militants in two distinct operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the military’s media division on Tuesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “On January 12-13, 2025, eight khwarij were eliminated in two distinct operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.”

The security forces carried out an intelligence-led operation in the Tank District. “Following effective engagement of the terrorists at their location, six khwarij were eliminated,” the statement indicated.

A separate confrontation occurred in the general area of Tirah Valley, Khyber District, where the forces “successfully neutralized two terrorists.”

Sanitization operations were ongoing to eradicate any remaining terrorists, the ISPR noted, adding, “[The] security forces of Pakistan are committed to eradicating the threat of terrorism from the nation.”

In July, the government officially categorized the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as Fitna al Khawarij and required all institutions to refer to those responsible for terrorist attacks in Pakistan as khariji (outcast). On Sunday, the ISPR announced that nine terrorists were eliminated in two separate operations in the North Waziristan district.

Recently, Pakistan has experienced a rise in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Following the violation of a fragile ceasefire agreement with the government by the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in 2022, acts of terrorism have surged.

The year 2024 has been reported as the deadliest year for Pakistan’s civil and military security forces in a decade, with at least 685 security personnel losing their lives amid a total of 444 attacks, according to a 2024 report from the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) think-tank. According to the Director General of ISPR, security forces undertook 59,775 operations last year, resulting in the deaths of 925 terrorists and the martyrdom of 383 officers and soldiers.
